Švyturys Ekstra lager beer

Švyturys Ekstra is one of Lithuania's most iconic lager beers, produced by the country's oldest brewery, Švyturys. Founded in 1784 in Klaipėda by the merchant Johann Wilhelm Reincke, the brewery has a long history that spans several political eras, maintaining its reputation for quality brewing throughout the centuries. The 'Ekstra' variety is a Dortmunder/European Export style lager that gained international fame after winning a gold medal at the World Beer Cup in Chicago in 2001.

Today, the brand is a core part of the Baltic brewing landscape. Following the privatization of the brewery in the 1990s, it eventually became part of the Švyturys-Utenos Alus company. Since the early 2000s, it has been owned by the Carlsberg Group, a Danish multinational brewing company. Production remains localized in Lithuania, where it serves as a major employer and a source of national pride, while benefiting from the global distribution and technological resources of its Danish parent company.
