TRESemmé is a globally recognized hair care brand that originated in the United States in 1947. It was created by the Godefroy Manufacturing Company and named after hair care expert Edna L. Emme. The brand was initially marketed exclusively to beauty salons, adhering to its long-standing tagline, "Used by Professionals."

In 1968, the brand was acquired by Alberto-Culver, which expanded its reach to retail consumers in supermarkets and pharmacies. Following the acquisition of Alberto-Culver in 2010, TRESemmé became part of the Unilever portfolio. Today, TRESemmé products are manufactured in multiple countries around the world, including the United States and various European and Asian locations, to support its massive global distribution network.
