The Cadbury Starbar is a classic confectionery item consisting of a milk chocolate coating filled with caramel and roasted peanuts. It was first introduced to the United Kingdom market in 1976 and has maintained a dedicated following for decades. In some international markets, most notably Canada and Germany, the product is marketed under the alternative name 'Wunderbar' but maintains the same core recipe of peanuts and caramel.
Over the years, the brand underwent various marketing changes, including a period starting in 1989 when it was briefly rebranded as the 'Peanut Boost' to align with the Boost bar range. However, it returned to its original Starbar branding (stylized as a single word) in 1994. While it was originally a British product, it is now part of a global portfolio, with production taking place in various locations including the United Kingdom, Ireland, and facilities operated by Marabou in the Nordic regions.
Ownership of the brand rests with Cadbury, which has a long history dating back to 1824 in Birmingham, England. After a major merger with Schweppes in 1969, the company was eventually acquired by the American conglomerate Kraft Foods in 2010. Following a corporate spin-off in 2012, the confectionery business, including the Cadbury and Starbar brands, became part of Mondelēz International, which continues to be the ultimate owner today.
