The Santa Maria brand originated in Gothenburg, Sweden, tracing its history back to Nordfalks spice trade founded in the early 20th century. Over the decades, it expanded to become one of the leading spice and Mexican food concepts across the Nordic and Baltic regions.

Today, Santa Maria is a flagship brand of the Finnish family-owned food and beverage corporation Paulig Group. Most Santa Maria dry spices packaged in glass jars are blended and packed at Paulig's primary spice production facility located in Saue, Estonia, while product development and Nordic logistics remain closely connected to Sweden.
