Dole Tropical Gold Pineapple Slices are produced using specially grown pineapples harvested from volcanic soil in the Philippines, where Dole operates major agricultural facilities and canning operations. The pineapples are canned in their own natural juice.

The Dole brand traces its roots to 1851 in Hawaii with the founding of Castle & Cooke, followed by James Dole founding the Hawaiian Pineapple Company in 1901. Over the decades, Dole grew into one of the world's largest fruit and vegetable producers.

In 2012, Dole Food Company sold its worldwide packaged foods business (Dole Packaged Foods) and Asian fresh produce business to ITOCHU Corporation, a major Japanese multinational conglomerate based in Tokyo. Today, Dole Packaged Foods operates as part of the ITOCHU group.
