Nurofen (often misspelled as Neurofen) is one of the most widely recognized over-the-counter analgesic brands in the United Kingdom and across global markets. The brand is centered around ibuprofen, an anti-inflammatory painkiller originally discovered and patented in the 1960s by a research team led by Dr. Stewart Adams at the British pharmaceutical company Boots UK (then Boots Pure Drug Company).
In 1983, Boots launched Nurofen as an over-the-counter medication in the UK following approval for general retail sale. Reckitt Benckiser Group plc, a multinational consumer goods giant headquartered in Slough, England, remains the ultimate owner and distributor of Nurofen products across retail and pharmacy channels worldwide.
