Becel Gold

Becel is a well-known brand of margarine and plant-based spreads developed in the Netherlands in the 1960s by Unilever. The name 'Becel' is derived from the acronym BCL (Blood Cholesterol Lowering), highlighting its original formulation rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids designed to support heart health.

In 2018, Unilever completed the sale of its global spreads division to the American private equity investment firm KKR (Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co.), which established Upfield (rebranded in 2024 to Flora Food Group) to manage iconic brands like Becel, Flora, Rama, and Country Crock. Today, Flora Food Group is headquartered in Amsterdam, Netherlands, with ultimate ownership under KKR based in the United States.

Production of Becel products takes place across several manufacturing facilities in Europe, primarily serving regional European markets including Germany, Austria, and the Benelux countries.
