The Begonia x hiemalis, commonly known as the Rieger Begonia or Elatior Begonia, is a popular ornamental flowering plant. Unlike mass-produced consumer goods, this is a biological product often grown in local nurseries and greenhouses globally to serve regional horticultural markets. The plant is a hybrid cross between tuberous begonias and Begonia socotrana, originally developed in Germany by plant breeder Otto Rieger in the mid-20th century.

There is no single ultimate owner of the 'Begonia' brand as it is a biological genus, though specific cultivars may be patented by various international breeding companies such as Dummen Orange or Syngenta Flowers.
