The Oh Henry! bar has a fascinating history involving two major confectionery giants and a divide in brand ownership across the North American border. Originally introduced in 1920 by the Williamson Candy Company in Chicago, Illinois, the bar's name is often attributed to a boy who frequented the original candy shop and was frequently asked to do chores by the workers, who would say, "Oh, Henry!"
In the United States, the brand was eventually acquired by Nestlé, which later sold its U.S. confectionery business to the Ferrara Candy Company, a subsidiary of the Ferrero Group, in 2018. However, in Canada, the rights to the brand were acquired by The Hershey Company. Because of this, the bar has different recipes and distinct manufacturing chains depending on the market. In Canada, it is a staple of Hershey’s lineup and is primarily produced at their facility in Smiths Falls, Ontario, while in the U.S., it is managed under the Ferrero umbrella.
