Speedo is the world's leading swimwear brand, originally founded in Australia in 1914 by Alexander MacRae as MacRae Hosiery manufacturers. It became famous for introducing the racersback suit, which allowed for greater freedom of movement during competitive swimming. While the brand has deep Australian roots, it has evolved into a massive global entity with a complex ownership history.

Today, the brand is owned by the British company Pentland Group, which acquired Speedo in the 1990s. While Speedo International is based in Nottingham, UK, the rights to the brand in North America are held individually by PVH Corp. However, for most of the world, operations are managed out of the United Kingdom. Manufacturing is distributed across a large network of facilities in Asia and Europe to meet global demand for technical racing suits and recreational swim gear.
