YETI was founded in 2006 by brothers Roy and Ryan Seiders in Austin, Texas. The brand was born out of their frustration with the low quality of mass-market coolers, which often failed during their fishing and hunting trips in the Texas heat. They set out to build the world's most durable cooler, leading to the creation of the legendary Tundra series. This focus on over-engineering and premium performance eventually expanded into a full range of outdoor gear, including the vacuum-insulated Rambler drinkware line seen in the image.

While the brand is deeply rooted in American outdoor culture and headquartered in Texas, its manufacturing footprint is global. High-performance hard-sided coolers like the Tundra are manufactured in the United States (Iowa and Wisconsin) and the Philippines. However, the drinkware products, such as the Rambler series, are manufactured in China to leverage advanced vacuum insulation and stainless-steel forming technologies.

Following its rapid growth, the company transitioned from a family-owned business to a private-equity-backed firm when Cortec Group acquired a majority stake in 2012. In 2018, YETI became a public company via an IPO on the New York Stock Exchange. As of 2026, YETI Holdings, Inc. remains an independent public company with its ownership distributed among institutional and retail investors.
