BSA, originally standing for Birmingham Small Arms Company, is a legendary British brand with a rich heritage dating back to 1861. Initially established as a firearms manufacturer in Birmingham, England, the company diversified into bicycles in the 1880s and produced its first motorcycle in 1910. For much of the early 20th century, BSA was a global leader in motorcycle production, becoming the largest manufacturer in the world by the 1950s.

After a period of decline and the cessation of original production in the 1970s, the brand was resurrected in the modern era. In October 2016, the Indian multinational Mahindra Group acquired the rights to the BSA name through its subsidiary, Classic Legends Pvt. Ltd. The brand officially returned to the market in late 2021 with the launch of the new Gold Star 650. While the engineering and design maintain British roots and the company maintains a presence in the UK for development, mass manufacturing is primarily centered in India to serve global markets. It is important to note that the BSA trademark for bicycles in India is held separately by TI Cycles of India (part of the Murugappa Group), while the motorcycle brand is under Mahindra's ownership.
