Brunswick is a storied seafood brand with roots tracing back to Canada in 1893, specifically starting in Blacks Harbour, New Brunswick. The brand was founded by brothers Lewis and Patrick Connors under Connors Bros. Limited and became famous for its high-quality canned sardines. Over the decades, it expanded globally, entering the Australian and New Zealand markets in the 1950s where it became a pantry staple.

While the Brunswick brand remains a global name, its ownership has shifted through several hands. In North America, the brand is often associated with Bumble Bee Foods. However, in the Australasian region (Australia and New Zealand), the brand has undergone separate ownership changes. In 2005, it was acquired by Freedom Foods Group (formerly So Natural Foods) through its subsidiary Paramount Seafoods.

As of late 2021, the brand's local ownership in Australia and New Zealand was transitioned to Tempo (Aust) Pty Ltd, a family-owned Australian company. Despite its Canadian origins and Australian ownership, the product is often manufactured in specialized processing facilities across Europe; for this specific variety, the packaging indicates it is produced in Poland, utilizing high-quality wild-caught sardines.
