Brooks Brothers apparel

Founded in 1818 by Henry Sands Brooks in New York City, Brooks Brothers is the oldest apparel retailer in the United States and is widely credited with introducing many menswear staples, such as the ready-to-wear suit and the button-down collar shirt. For over two centuries, the brand was synonymous with traditional American style, famously outfitting over 40 U.S. presidents, including Abraham Lincoln.

Historically, the brand maintained a strong manufacturing presence in the United States, operating famous factories in North Carolina, Massachusetts, and New York. However, following financial struggles and a bankruptcy filing in 2020, the brand's domestic manufacturing footprint was largely eliminated. While a limited number of high-end items may still be produced in the U.S. through specialized partnerships, the vast majority of Brooks Brothers products are now imported from various global manufacturing hubs, including locations in Asia and Europe.

In September 2020, Brooks Brothers was acquired by SPARC Group LLC, a joint venture between Authentic Brands Group (ABG) and Simon Property Group. As of 2026, the brand remains under the portfolio of Authentic Brands Group, which operates as a brand management and licensing powerhouse. This ownership transition has shifted the brand's focus toward global licensing and digital-first retail strategies while maintaining its legacy as a cornerstone of American Ivy League fashion.
