The company was born out of entrepreneurial spirit during the 1972 miners' strike in the UK, when founder Mike Winch began selling decorated candles from a farm building. While the brand maintains its creative headquarters and massive showroom facilities in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, the actual production of its goods is largely outsourced to specialized manufacturing partners in East Asia, particularly China.
