Honor was originally established in 2013 as a sub-brand of the Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei. Initially focused on the budget and mid-range smartphone market, it allowed Huawei to compete with nascent digital-first brands. The brand's origin is deeply rooted in Shenzhen, China, where it leveraged Huawei's extensive R&D and supply chain capabilities.
In November 2020, to ensure its survival amidst U.S. trade restrictions affecting Huawei, Honor was sold to Shenzhen Zhixin New Information Technology Co., Ltd. This consortium consists of over 30 agents, dealers, and government-backed entities. Following this separation, Honor regained access to global supply chains, including Google Mobile Services and high-end chipsets. Today, Honor operates as an independent global technology leader, manufacturing its devices primarily in China while maintaining a significant presence in international markets across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
