This product is a combination of a stainless steel egg cup and a porcelain plate featuring the iconic 'Zwiebelmuster' (Blue Onion) pattern. The egg cup itself is a classic design by the German company WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik), often attributed to the Bauhaus-influenced designer Wilhelm Wagenfeld. These cups are typically manufactured from WMF's signature 'Cromargan' 18/10 stainless steel, a material known for its high durability and resistance to food acids.
The accompanying plate features the Blue Onion pattern, which originated with the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory in the 18th century (around 1739). While Meissen is the original creator, the pattern became so popular that it was widely produced by other renowned German porcelain manufacturers such as Hutschenreuther (now part of the Rosenthal Group) and Villeroy & Boch. WMF has historically collaborated with these porcelain makers to create sets that pair their metalware with high-quality ceramics. Today, WMF is part of the French SEB Group, while the original Blue Onion brand (Meissen) remains owned by the Free State of Saxony.
