The brand traces its roots back to 1939, when Dr. Mark Morris Sr. created a specialized diet to treat a guide dog's kidney disease. This clinical innovation eventually led to the official founding of the company in 1948 in Topeka, Kansas, under the name Hill Packing Company.

In 1976, the brand was acquired by the global consumer goods giant Colgate-Palmolive. Today, Hill's products are developed at the Global Pet Nutrition Center in Kansas, where a team of veterinarians and nutritionists research formulas to support specific life stages and health needs, such as the Science Plan Kitten diet shown here.
