Bolletje is one of the most iconic bakery brands in the Netherlands, best known for its 'Beschuit' (rusks). Founded in 1867 by Gerardus Johannes ter Beek in Almelo, the company evolved from a local family bakery into a national household name through innovative marketing and product diversification. The brand's identity is deeply rooted in Dutch culinary tradition, famously associated with 'Beschuit met muisjes' used for celebrating births.

While Bolletje remained a family-owned entity for over a century, it was acquired in 2013 by the German conglomerate Borggreve. Despite this change in ultimate ownership, the brand maintains its distinct Dutch identity. Manufacturing remains concentrated in the Netherlands, primarily at its historic sites in Almelo and Heerde, where it continues to produce a wide range of products including gingerbread, crispbread, and savory snacks.
