Tate & Lyle Syrup

Tate & Lyle syrups are iconic staples of British kitchens, most famously known for Lyle's Golden Syrup. The brand has a deep-rooted history in the United Kingdom, tracing back to the separate sugar refining businesses of Henry Tate and Abram Lyle in the late 19th century. Lyle's Golden Syrup was first produced in 1881 at the Plaistow Wharf refinery in East London and is recognized by the Guinness World Records for having the world's oldest unchanged brand packaging.

While the brand name 'Tate & Lyle' remains synonymous with the original British company, the consumer sugar and syrup business underwent a significant ownership change in 2010. Tate & Lyle PLC, the original parent company, shifted its focus toward specialized food ingredients and sold its refined sugar operations to the ASR Group (American Sugar Refining). Today, these syrups continue to be manufactured primarily at the historic Thames Refinery in Silvertown, London, maintaining their long-standing British heritage under American corporate ownership.
