Pentel is a world-renowned Japanese brand that has been a leader in the stationery industry since its founding in 1946. Originally established as 'Japan Stationery Limited' by Yukio Horie in Tokyo, the company initially focused on crayons and pastels before revolutionizing writing instruments. Pentel is credited with inventing the fiber-tipped (felt-tip) pen in 1963 and has remained at the forefront of ink technology ever since.

The EnerGel series, featuring high-performance liquid gel ink, is one of the brand's most successful modern product lines. It combines the smooth flow of liquid ink with the fast-drying properties of gel ink. Pentel remains a privately held, family-owned company, currently led by the founder's grandson. Its German operations are managed through Pentel GmbH, based in Hamburg, which has been the local distributor and subsidiary since 1969.
