Minute Rice is a historic brand of instant rice that revolutionized quick meal preparation. Invented in the early 1940s by Afghan-American inventor Ataullah K. Ozai-Durrani, the technology for precooking and dehydrating rice was initially used to provide rations for the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II. It was later introduced to the general consumer market in 1946 and launched in Canada in 1949, where it has remained a pantry staple for decades.

The brand was originally owned by General Foods (later Kraft Foods) before being sold in 2006 to Ebro Foods, a Spanish multinational that is the world's largest producer in the rice sector. In Canada, the brand is managed by Riviana Foods Canada Corporation, a subsidiary of the Texas-based Riviana Foods Inc., which is itself a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ebro Foods. While the brand has a strong presence in Canada, the rice is typically sourced and processed at large-scale facilities in the United States or other global locations where Ebro Foods operates, as Canada has limited domestic rice milling capacity.
