The Sensodyne brand was originally developed in the United States in the early 1960s by the Block Drug Company, based in Jersey City, New Jersey. In 2000, pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) acquired Block Drug, bringing Sensodyne into its global consumer healthcare portfolio.

In July 2022, GSK spun off its consumer healthcare division into an independent, publicly traded British company called Haleon plc, headquartered in Weybridge, Surrey, United Kingdom. Haleon now fully owns and operates the Sensodyne and Pronamel brand portfolio globally. Haleon manufactures Sensodyne toothpaste across several facilities worldwide, including manufacturing plants in the UK, Slovakia, and other regional production hubs.
