Persil is one of the most recognized laundry detergent brands worldwide, originally introduced in Germany in 1907 by Henkel & Cie. The name is derived from two of its initial active ingredients: perborate and silicate. Persil revolutionized household chores as the first commercially available self-acting laundry detergent.

Today, the brand in Germany and continental Europe is owned and manufactured by Henkel AG & Co. KGaA, headquartered in Düsseldorf, Germany. While the brand name 'Persil' is also used in the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, and parts of Oceania by Unilever (who acquired rights from a separate historical licensee), the German product is entirely an innovation and asset of Henkel. Henkel operates major laundry and home care production facilities across Europe, including Germany, Poland, and Hungary.
