Urtekram was founded in Denmark in 1972 as a small organic merchant in Copenhagen by Lisbeth Damsgaard and Ronnie McGrail. Over the decades, it expanded into Scandinavia's leading brand of organic foods and certified body care products.

Today, Urtekram is a brand under the Nordic FMCG group Midsona AB, which acquired Urtekram International A/S in 2015. Midsona is headquartered in Malmö, Sweden, and is publicly listed on Nasdaq Stockholm. Urtekram's peanut butter is produced in the Netherlands using certified organic peanuts.
