Brand Origin and History

Maarud was founded in 1936 by Thomas Stang on the historic Maarud farm in Sør-Odal, Hedmark (now Innlandet), Norway. Commercial potato chip production commenced in 1953, establishing Maarud as one of Scandinavia's pioneer snack manufacturers and a household name across Norway.

Ownership

Throughout its history, Maarud underwent several changes in ownership, including a period under Kraft Foods / Mondelēz International and Norwegian private equity firm Herkules Capital. In 2014, Maarud (as part of the Estrella Maarud holding group) was acquired by Intersnack Group, a major European snack food company headquartered in Düsseldorf, Germany. Today, Maarud AS operates as a core subsidiary within the Intersnack Group.
