Marabou is one of Sweden's most iconic brands, synonymous with Swedish milk chocolate. The brand was founded in 1916 by the Norwegian chocolatier Johan Throne Holst, who had already found success with the Freia brand in Norway. Because the name Freia was already registered in Sweden, he chose 'Marabou' after the stork on the Freia logo.

Manufacturing primarily takes place at the Marabou factory in Upplands Väsby, just north of Stockholm, where it has been produced since the company's early years. The brand's identity is deeply rooted in Swedish culture, particularly known for its 'Mmm... Marabou' slogan.

Today, Marabou is owned by Mondelez International, a global snack food conglomerate based in the United States. While the brand maintains its Nordic heritage and production, its ultimate ownership sits within a massive international portfolio of snack brands.
