Primo is Australia's largest producer of ham, bacon, and smallgoods. The brand's history began in 1985 when Andrew Lederer and his family established the business in Homebush, New South Wales. Over several decades, it grew from a local family-owned enterprise into a national leader in the meat processing industry, known for its high-quality deli meats and traditional recipes.

The brand underwent a major transformation in 2015 when it was acquired by the Brazilian global meat giant, JBS S.A. Despite the change in ownership to a multinational corporation, Primo continues to operate primarily out of its large-scale manufacturing facilities in Australia, including its state-of-the-art processing plant in Wacol, Queensland. This ensures that the production remains localized to serve the Australian and export markets while benefiting from the global supply chain of its parent company.

Today, Primo represents a significant part of the JBS Australia portfolio. The brand is a staple in Australian supermarkets, providing a wide range of products including salami, pepperoni, and cured meats. The ownership structure reflects the globalization of the food industry, where a quintessentially Australian household name is backed by one of the largest protein producers in the world, headquartered in Brazil.
