Toblerone Truffles

Toblerone is one of the world's most recognizable chocolate brands, famous for its unique triangular shape inspired by the Matterhorn in the Swiss Alps. Originally created in 1908 by Theodor Tobler and Emil Baumann in Bern, Switzerland, the brand has a rich history spanning over a century. The name itself is a portmanteau of Tobler's surname and 'Torrone', the Italian word for honey and almond nougat.

While famously associated with its Swiss heritage, the manufacturing landscape for Toblerone changed significantly in 2023. Due to strict Swissness laws which require 80% of raw materials to come from Switzerland to maintain 'Swiss Made' labeling, the ultimate owner, Mondelez International, shifted a large portion of production to Bratislava, Slovakia. This move resulted in the removal of the iconic Matterhorn peak from the packaging, replacing it with a more generic mountain logo to comply with local regulations.

Today, Toblerone is owned by the American multinational conglomerate Mondelez International. Despite the shift in production for many product lines like these truffles to more cost-effective facilities in Eastern Europe, the brand remains centrally managed and marketed as a premium global chocolate icon.
