While historical brewing in Vimperk dates back centuries, the modern iteration of Král Šumavy is produced by Pivovar Dudák (Měšťanský pivovar Strakonice). This brewery is notable for being the last remaining brewery in the Czech Republic owned by a municipality, specifically the city of Strakonice, ensuring its independence from global beverage conglomerates.
