Linux Mint

Linux Mint is a community-driven, open-source Linux distribution based on Debian and Ubuntu. Since its release in 2006, it has focused on providing a user-friendly experience for desktop computers, particularly for those transitioning from Windows or macOS. It is well-known for its flagship Cinnamon desktop environment.

Unlike physical consumer goods, Linux Mint is not 'manufactured' in a single country. It is developed and maintained by a global community of developers and volunteers working collaboratively over the internet. Its codebase resides on servers worldwide, and it can be downloaded and installed globally.

While the project was founded by Clement Lefebvre, who is based in France, the Linux Mint project is not owned by a traditional corporation. It operates as an independent, community-backed project that relies on donations, sponsorships, and partnerships (such as those with hardware providers) rather than being a subsidiary of a major tech conglomerate. This ensures its independence and commitment to free and open-source software principles.
