The company was originally founded in 1994 in Romania by the Swiss Läderach family, who own the renowned premium chocolatier Confiseur Läderach AG. The brand was created to bring high-quality, Swiss-inspired chocolate recipes to a broader market in Eastern Europe and beyond.

While the brand's heritage is deeply rooted in Swiss craftsmanship, its operations are centered in Romania, where its primary manufacturing facility is located in Pantelimon, near Bucharest. In 2013, the Läderach family sold Heidi Chocolat to KEX Confectionery SA, a family-owned investment group based in Austria. Today, Heidi operates as a major international chocolate brand, exporting to over 50 countries while maintaining its headquarters and core production in Romania under Austrian ownership.
