Häagen-Dazs is a premium ice cream brand that originated in New York, USA, in 1960. Founded by Reuben and Rose Mattus, the brand was named to sound Scandinavian, though the name is entirely made up. Despite its American roots, much of the international supply, particularly for Europe and Asia, is manufactured at a dedicated facility in Tilloy-lès-Mofflaines, France.

The brand has a complex ownership history. While it started as a small family business, it was eventually acquired by the Pillsbury Company, which was later bought by General Mills. Since 2001, the rights to the brand have been split: General Mills owns the brand globally, while Nestlé (through its joint venture Froneri) holds the license to market and distribute the products in the United States and Canada.
