Napoleon is a prominent brand in the outdoor living and home comfort industry, recognized globally for its high-performance gas, charcoal, and electric grills, as well as fireplaces and HVAC systems. The brand is the primary trade name of Wolf Steel Ltd., which was founded in 1976 by Wolfgang Schroeter and his wife Ingrid in Barrie, Ontario, Canada. Originally a small steel fabrication workshop, the company pivoted to heating products after Wolfgang designed a unique wood-burning stove with a glass door in 1978.

The 'Napoleon' brand name itself was officially introduced in 1981 and was reportedly inspired by the prestige associated with Napoleon brandy. While the company is headquartered in Barrie, Ontario—where approximately 80% of its manufacturing is managed—it has grown into a global operation with additional production and distribution facilities in the United States (Kentucky), China, and Mexico. To this day, Napoleon remains a privately held, family-owned enterprise, with the second generation of the Schroeter family leading its international expansion and innovation efforts into 2026 and beyond.
