The HP 30S is a specialized scientific calculator designed primarily for students and educational use. Launched by Hewlett-Packard, it broke away from HP's traditional focus on professional financial and engineering markets by targeting the high school and college student demographic with a standard algebraic input system.
While Hewlett-Packard (HP) is an iconic American technology company founded in a garage in Palo Alto, California, the production of their hardware, including calculators, has been outsourced to global manufacturing hubs for many years. The HP 30S was specifically manufactured in China, a common practice for high-volume consumer electronics during its production run.
Following the corporate split of Hewlett-Packard in 2015, the calculator business remained under HP Inc., which manages personal systems and printers. HP Inc. continues to hold the intellectual property and brand rights for their computing hardware legacy, though many of their scientific calculators are now produced and marketed via licensing agreements with third-party manufacturers like Moravia Consulting.
