Princes Tinned Fish

Princes is one of the United Kingdom's most established food and drink brands, widely recognized for its range of ambient grocery items, particularly tinned fish such as tuna, salmon, mackerel, and sardines.

The company traces its beginnings back to 1880 in Liverpool, England, where Simpson & Roberts was founded as a canned food importer and distributor. In 1946, the business introduced the Princes brand, which quickly expanded across British grocery shelves.

Princes sources and cans its fish in multiple countries depending on the species and fishery locations, including processing facilities in Mauritius (especially for tuna), as well as cannery partners across Europe, North America, and Southeast Asia. For decades, Princes Group was owned by Japan's Mitsubishi Corporation (which acquired it in 1989). In July 2024, Mitsubishi completed the sale of Princes Limited to Newlat Food S.p.A., an Italian agrifood company listed on the Milan Stock Exchange, establishing Newlat as the ultimate owner.
