Wella Mousse

Wella is a legendary German hair care brand founded in 1880 by Franz Ströher. Originally specializing in wigs and hair nets, it evolved through the 20th century to become a world leader in professional hair color and styling products, particularly known for its innovations in permanent waves (perms).

The brand has undergone significant ownership changes in the 21st century. It was acquired by Procter & Gamble in 2003, then sold to Coty Inc. in 2016. In late 2020, KKR (Kohlberg Kravis Roberts) acquired a majority stake in several Coty professional brands, leading to the formation of the Wella Company. In 2026 and beyond, the Wella Company operates as a major independent entity headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, with KKR as the majority owner. Manufacturing is globally distributed across various facilities in Europe and North America depending on the specific product line.
