Opavia is the most iconic biscuit brand in the Czech Republic, with roots dating back to 1840 when it was founded by Kaspar Melchior Baltasar Fiedor in Opava. The brand became famous for its traditional recipes and high-quality baking techniques, surviving through various historical periods and nationalization before becoming a dominant force in the Central European snack market.
Following the Velvet Revolution and the transition to a market economy, the brand underwent several ownership changes. Initially part of the Cokoladovny joint venture, it was eventually acquired by Danone and later by the multinational snack giant Mondelez International. Today, the products are primarily manufactured in large-scale modern factories located in Opava and Lovosice.
Under the ownership of Mondelez International, Opavia continues to thrive as a household name, producing beloved products like BeBe Dobré ráno, Tatranky, and Kolonáda spa wafers. The brand remains deeply tied to its Czech heritage while benefiting from the global distribution and marketing infrastructure of its American parent company.
