Verkade is a renowned Dutch brand with a history dating back to 1886 when it was founded by Ericus Gerhardus Verkade in Zaandam, Netherlands. Originally famous for its bread and rusk, the company expanded into biscuits and chocolate, becoming a household name in the Dutch market. The Nizza Kokos variety is a classic coconut-flavored biscuit topped with a thin layer of sugar, reflecting the brand's heritage in traditional Dutch baking.

Over the decades, ownership of Verkade has transitioned through several major food conglomerates. In 1990, it was acquired by United Biscuits. Following the acquisition of United Biscuits in 2014, the brand became part of the Yıldız Holding portfolio. Today, it operates under pladis, a global snacking company that consolidates major brands like Godiva, McVitie's, and Ulker.

While the brand maintains its strong Dutch identity and continues to manufacture products primarily in the Netherlands, it is now part of a global supply chain managed from the United Kingdom and ultimately owned by the Turkish conglomerate Yıldız Holding.
