Marabou Gräddnougat chocolate

Marabou is one of Sweden's most iconic chocolate brands, founded in 1916 by Norwegian chocolatier Johan Throne Holst. While the brand was established in Sweden because the name 'Freia' (the original Norwegian brand) was already registered there, production officially began in 1919 in Sundbyberg. Since the 1970s, the primary production has been located in Upplands Väsby, Sweden, where the vast majority of Marabou chocolate tablets are still manufactured today.

In terms of ownership, Marabou was acquired by Kraft General Foods (later Kraft Foods) in 1993. Following the corporate spin-off of Kraft's global snack business in 2012, Marabou became a flagship brand under Mondelēz International. Despite its global corporate parentage, the brand maintains its strong Swedish identity and continues to operate through the local subsidiary Mondelēz Sverige AB.
