The Body Shop is a world-renowned British cosmetics, skin care and perfume company, founded by Dame Anita Roddick in 1976. The brand became a pioneer in ethical consumerism, famously advocating against animal testing and promoting fair trade practices long before they became industry standards. Originally starting as a single shop in Brighton, England, it grew into a global empire known for its naturally-inspired product lines such as Tea Tree oil and Shea Butter collections.

Over the decades, the ownership of The Body Shop has changed hands significantly. After being owned by L'Oréal and later the Brazilian firm Natura & Co, the brand underwent a major transition in late 2023 and 2024. In early 2024, the brand's UK business and several European operations underwent restructuring. As of 2024, the brand is owned by the private equity firm Aurelius Group. While they continue to focus on the brand's ethical heritage, the manufacturing footprint remains centered largely in the UK to maintain quality standards, while leveraging global supply chains for specific ingredients sourced through their Community Fair Trade program.
