The brand was launched in 2002 by Aekyung Industrial Co., Ltd., a prominent South Korean consumer goods company founded in 1954. This specific treatment is formulated with propolis extract, honey, and royal jelly, designed to provide intensive nourishment, repair damage, and enhance the natural gloss of hair.

Historically part of the Aekyung Group, the Kerasys brand has seen significant corporate shifts. As of late 2025 and into 2026, management and ownership are transitioning following a major acquisition agreement. A consortium led by Taekwang Industrial, alongside T2 Private Equity and Yuanta Investment, has moved to acquire a majority stake in Aekyung Industrial to expand into the global K-beauty market. Despite these changes in corporate ownership, the product remains a staple of South Korean cosmetic engineering and continues to be primarily manufactured in its country of origin.
