The Barilla brand traces its roots back to 1877, when Pietro Barilla Sr. opened a small bakery and pasta shop in Parma, Italy. Over more than a century, the business grew into an international powerhouse while retaining its heritage as an authentic Italian pasta maker. Today, the majority of Barilla pasta sold in European retail markets is manufactured in its primary facilities in Italy, most notably at its flagship plant in Pedrignano near Parma.

Barilla is privately held and operated by the Barilla family through Barilla Holding S.p.A., headquartered in Parma, Italy. In the Polish market, products are distributed through its local subsidiary, Barilla Poland Sp. z o.o.
