Continente ground coffee

Continente ground coffee is a private-label retail coffee product sold under the flagship brand of Continente, Portugal's leading supermarket and hypermarket chain. Designed to cater to everyday household consumption, Continente ground coffee blends selection beans commonly imported from prominent coffee-growing regions such as South America and Africa, which are then roasted, ground, and packaged in Portugal by specialized domestic roasting partners.

The Continente brand was established in 1985 with the opening of Portugal's first hypermarket in Matosinhos. It is owned and operated by MC Sonae (formerly Sonae MC), the retail food division of Sonae SGPS, S.A., a major Portuguese multinational conglomerate headquartered in Maia, Portugal. While international supermarket chains or retailers in other parts of the world might share the generic French/Spanish geographical term 'continente', the Continente supermarket brand in Portugal is solely part of Sonae's retail network.
