Vox is an iconic musical equipment brand celebrated worldwide for its legendary amplifiers, effects pedals, and uniquely styled electric and acoustic guitars. Originally established in Dartford, Kent, England, in the late 1950s by Thomas Walter Jennings as Jennings Musical Industries (JMI), Vox became a cornerstone of the British Invasion sound, famously embraced by bands like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. Alongside its amplifiers, Vox introduced distinctively shaped guitars such as the Teardrop (Mark) and Phantom series.
In 1992, Vox Amplification was acquired by the prominent Japanese musical instrument corporation Korg Inc. Under Korg's ownership, the Vox brand continues to design and produce both reissue and modern variations of its classic guitars, alongside its renowned amplifiers and effects pedals.
Today, Vox guitars are manufactured in multiple facilities worldwide, primarily across Asian manufacturing hubs such as Indonesia, China, and Japan, depending on the specific model and tier, while distribution throughout Europe, including Austria, is managed via Korg's international network. Note that Vox guitars are entirely distinct from unrelated brands sharing the 'Vox' name, such as Vox mobile telecommunications, Vox European electronics, or the VOX television network.
