Turnitin Plagiarism Detection Software

Turnitin is an internationally recognized internet-based plagiarism detection and academic integrity service widely used by universities, secondary schools, and educational institutions across the United Kingdom. Originally created in 1997 by researchers and students at the University of California, Berkeley, it began as a peer-review application called Plagiarism.org before evolving into Turnitin under iParadigms, LLC.

As a software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform, Turnitin is primarily hosted and developed across data centres in the United States and globally distributed cloud infrastructure. In 2019, global consumer internet group and tech investor Prosus (the international internet assets arm of South African conglomerate Naspers) completed the acquisition of Turnitin for nearly $1.9 billion.

In the UK, services are delivered through Turnitin's local entities and infrastructure, supporting grading, similarity checking, and assessment integrity for thousands of academic organizations.
