Brand Origin and History

E. Wedel is one of Poland's most historic and revered chocolate brands, established in Warsaw in 1851 by Karol Wedel. Its famous confectionery, Ptasie Mleczko (literally "bird's milk"), consists of a light, whipped vanilla marshmallow foam enrobed in chocolate. It was developed in 1936 by Jan Wedel, the founder's grandson, inspired by his travels in France, and has since become an iconic Polish sweet recognized and sold worldwide.

Manufacturing and Availability

E. Wedel's confectionery products, including Ptasie Mleczko, are manufactured in Poland at the historic factory site in Warsaw (Praga district). The brand is widely distributed internationally and can be found across major supermarkets and specialty European food shops throughout the United Kingdom.

Ownership

Following decades of Polish family management and state ownership during the communist era, E. Wedel underwent several international corporate ownership changes (including PepsiCo and Cadbury). In 2010, the brand was acquired by the Japanese-South Korean multinational conglomerate Lotte Corporation (specifically Lotte Confectionery, now Lotte Wellfood), which serves as its ultimate parent company.
