Ritter Sport is an iconic German brand of chocolate from the family-owned Alfred Ritter GmbH & Co. KG. The brand was founded in 1912 by Alfred Ritter and his wife Clara in Bad Cannstatt, Stuttgart. The signature square shape, designed to fit into a sport jacket pocket without breaking, was introduced by Clara Ritter in 1932, giving the brand its name "Sport."

Production remains centralized in Waldenbuch, Germany, where the company maintains strict quality control over its chocolate-making process. Ritter Sport is notable for being the first major chocolate bar manufacturer to source 100% certified sustainable cocoa for its entire product range.

Unlike many global confectionery brands, Ritter Sport has remained an independent, family-owned business for over a century. It is currently owned by the third and fourth generations of the Ritter family. The company operates with a strong focus on ecological and social sustainability, including operating its own cocoa plantation, El Cacao, in Nicaragua.
