Rotel is a family-owned Japanese manufacturer of high-end audio and video equipment, including amplifiers, preamplifiers, and CD players. Founded in 1961 by Tomoki Tachikawa in Tokyo, Japan, the brand originally began as an OEM manufacturer before establishing its own identity as a premium hi-fi brand.

While the company's research, development, and engineering remain centered in Japan, production was moved to dedicated manufacturing facilities in Zhuhai, China, in the early 2000s to maintain competitive pricing while keeping strict quality control. The brand is notable for its long-standing strategic alliance with Bowers & Wilkins (B&W), which led to shared distribution networks globally.

Unlike many of its competitors who have been acquired by large investment conglomerates, Rotel remains under the private ownership and management of the Tachikawa family. This independent status has allowed the brand to maintain a consistent focus on 'Balanced Design Concept' engineering, prioritizing internal component quality over unnecessary features.
