The brand is the public face of the Milchwerke Berchtesgadener Land Chiemgau eG, a cooperative founded in 1927. The cooperative is owned by its member farmers, who are located in the Alpine region between the Watzmann and Zugspitze mountains, as illustrated by the map on the packaging.

The milk is produced and processed directly in Piding, Bavaria. The brand is well-known for being the first dairy in Germany to introduce organic milk and for its commitment to fair prices for farmers. As a cooperative, the ultimate owner is the collective of approximately 1,600 farmers who supply the milk, ensuring that the company remains independent from large multinational food conglomerates.
